How to get CML/CMR from other brokers?

Did not find the name of your broker above? No worries!

You can just Call or Email your demat account broker and ask them to send you a Client Master List or Client Master Report (CML/CMR) and your broker should e-mail it to you.

Why do I need a CML?

Why do I need a CML?

The Client Master List (CML) or Client Master Report (CMR) is the most critical document for off-market transfers of unlisted shares. It acts as a certificate of your Demat account, containing details like your Client ID, DP ID, PAN, and Bank details linked to the account.

Without a valid CML copy (digitally signed PDF is preferred), the depository participants (NSDL/CDSL) cannot verify the beneficiary details, leading to rejection of DIS slips or transfer requests.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a digitally signed CML valid for transfers?

Yes. As per current CDSL and NSDL norms, a CML copy downloaded directly from your broker's official back-office (which typically comes with a digital signature) is fully valid for off-market transfers. You do not strictly need a wet-ink stamp for online submissions, though some conservative banks may still request it for physical DIS submission.

What is the password for my CML PDF?

Most brokers password-protect the CML PDF for security. The most common password formats are your PAN Number in UPPERCASE or your Date of Birth (DDMMYYYY). However, this varies by broker, so please check the email body received from your broker for the specific combination.

Does a CML copy expire?

Technically, a Client Master Report does not have an "expiry date" as long as your details (Address, Bank, Status) have not changed. However, for compliance reasons, most counter-parties and brokers require a CML that is not older than 3 to 6 months to ensure the account is active and details are current.
